To promote the rights and strengthen the protections
of women and girls who are incarcerated in, or who are under the supervision
of, or who have recently been released from, the criminal justice system
in the United States, both at the federal and state levels;
To provide counsel, advice, support and assistance
to such women and their families within the financial means of the organization;
To initiate, sponsor and support the use of legal
services, including civil rights actions and class action lawsuits, to
protect, defend and fight for the rights and privileges of such women
and their families;
To increase the awareness of the general public
about the issues, interests and concerns of such women, through research,
education and the dissemination of information, and through various mediums
such as forums, newsletters, Web sites and similar ventures; and
To advocate for changes in the laws and governmental
policies affecting the plight of such women and their families and the
conditions of their incarceration and supervision.
